The Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS) has issued a recall for 143,416 pounds of ready-to-eat bologna produced by Gaiser’s European Style Provisions in Union, New Jersey. The recall was initiated due to misbranding and undeclared meat ingredients, including pork, beef, and chicken. The products were distributed nationwide between March 20 and June 20 and are marked with the establishment number “EST. 5385” inside the USDA inspection label.
The various bologna products included in the recall are vacuum-packed packages of “family tree bologna veal” containing undeclared pork, plastic-wrapped packages of “babushka’s recipe chicken bologna” containing undeclared pork, plastic-wrapped packages of “fancy bologna” labeled with pork but containing undeclared beef and chicken, vacuum-packed packages of “Gaisers Russian brand doktorskaya bologna” containing undeclared beef, plastic-wrapped packages of “Gaisers bologna veal” containing undeclared chicken and pork, plastic-wrapped packages of “Gaisers turkey bologna” containing undeclared chicken and pork, and plastic-wrapped packages of “chicken bologna kypoyka paba” containing undeclared pork.
The FSIS has classified this recall as Class III, indicating that the consumption of the affected products is not likely to cause adverse health effects. No illnesses have been reported in connection with this recall. However, consumers are advised to check their refrigerators and freezers for any of the recalled products and either discard them or return them to the place of purchase.
