Sazerac Company Acquires Western Son Vodka and Distillery
Sazerac, a leading spirits company, has recently made a strategic acquisition by purchasing small batch spirits company Western Son Vodka and Distillery. This acquisition, for an undisclosed amount, adds to Sazerac’s growing portfolio of premium spirits brands.
Based in Texas, Western Son is known for producing a range of flavored vodkas and gin. The acquisition of Western Son complements Sazerac’s existing vodka offerings, which were expanded last year with the purchase of Svedka Vodka from Constellation Brands.
Sazerac CEO Jake Wenz expressed his excitement about the acquisition, stating that Western Son has built a strong brand and provides an opportunity for Sazerac to enhance its portfolio. In addition to expanding its product range, the acquisition also adds production capacity and capabilities to Sazerac’s network.
The flavored spirits market is experiencing significant growth, with projections indicating a 17.89% increase from 2025 to 2035. This growth potential makes the Western Son brand an attractive asset for Sazerac as it looks to capitalize on emerging trends in the spirits industry.
While Sazerac is headquartered in both Louisville, Kentucky, and New Orleans, the company has been actively pursuing opportunities in Texas. In addition to the acquisition of Western Son, Sazerac has recently partnered with Andrews Distributing to introduce three ready-to-drink brands in the Texas market, including Nuestro, Vamos, and Brightway.
This focus on the Texas market is further underscored by Sazerac’s acquisition of Texas-based BuzzBallz last year, signaling the company’s commitment to expanding its presence in the region.
Notably, Sazerac’s acquisition of Western Son was not without competition. In 2023, Splash Beverage was reportedly in talks to acquire Western Son’s owner, JEM Beverage Management Company. However, the deal ultimately fell through, paving the way for Sazerac to secure the acquisition of Western Son.
Overall, the acquisition of Western Son Vodka and Distillery represents a strategic move for Sazerac as it continues to strengthen its position in the spirits market and capitalize on the growing demand for premium and flavored spirits.
