The Save Mart Companies is gearing up to introduce a new private label line of minimally processed meats in response to the escalating grocery prices and economic uncertainty facing shoppers. This initiative is part of a broader set of strategies aimed at helping customers navigate the challenges of rising food costs.
The value-priced meat products, which include beef, pork, and poultry, will be free of artificial ingredients and will be available in stores starting in mid-November, with a formal launch planned for December. These products will be branded with the name of the banner under which they are sold, providing customers with a quality protein option at an affordable price.
Operating 191 stores in California and Nevada under the Save Mart, Lucky, and FoodMaxx banners, The Save Mart Companies is committed to making healthy eating more accessible to families. With meat prices on the rise, the company recognizes the importance of offering affordable options to help customers stretch their food budgets.
Inflation in the meat category reached 8.5% annually in September 2025, significantly higher than the overall grocery inflation rate of 2.7%. The Save Mart Companies’ senior vice president of merchandising, Zeb Early, highlighted the impact of meat prices on consumers’ food budgets and emphasized the value that the new private label meat line will provide.
Looking ahead, The Save Mart Companies plans to expand its private label assortment in 2026, although specific product additions have not been disclosed. Private label products currently account for a significant portion of the company’s sales, showcasing the popularity and trust in these offerings among customers.
The launch of the private label meat line is part of the company’s “Right By You” savings program, which also includes discounts on select products, free delivery for orders over $35 placed through the company’s e-commerce platforms, and enhanced digital coupons. Additionally, The Save Mart Companies is running a Thanksgiving-focused meal promotion offering affordable meal options for 10 people at select stores.
Despite the challenges posed by rising food costs, The Save Mart Companies is leveraging its regional presence and strong supplier relationships to deliver value to its customers. By prioritizing affordability and quality, the company is working to support its shoppers during these challenging times.
