John Tesh, a musician and former host of Entertainment Tonight, was diagnosed with a rare form of prostate cancer in 2015. Despite having normal PSA levels, Tesh’s cancer did not produce PSA and was deemed inoperable. After a rocky journey, Tesh found support from his wife, doctors at the University of Texas MD Anderson Cancer Center, and his faith. His wife played a crucial role in encouraging him to fight and seek treatment. Tesh eventually underwent a radical prostatectomy and faced complications, including the loss of a kidney. Throughout his journey, Tesh found strength in his wife and faith, ultimately overcoming the odds and continuing his fight against prostate cancer. “When my wife had a friend who was on the board at MD Anderson and we visited the facility, we learned that almost 1,200 people were in a similar situation. Tesh attributes his life-saving treatment to the doctors, especially those at MD Anderson, as well as to his wife and his faith.
Tesh received prostate cancer care at MD Anderson under the supervision of Christopher Logothetis, M.D., a professor of genitourinary medical oncology. Logothetis recommended robotic surgery performed by urologic surgeon Brian Chapin, MD, to remove suspicious lymph nodes. Following this procedure, Tesh underwent chemotherapy and androgen deprivation therapy (ADT) to treat the cancer.
Despite a recurrence of the cancer, Tesh decided to hold off on radiation therapy after consulting with doctors at Cedars-Sinai Hospital. Tesh’s prostate cancer has been unique, as some prostate cancer cells do not produce the usual markers like PSA, which complicates diagnosis and treatment.
To assist doctors in treating his condition, Tesh’s medical history has been used to create a digital twin simulation. This tool helps doctors understand and treat rare cases like Tesh’s. MD Anderson’s President, Peter WT Pisters, highlighted the institution’s commitment to advancing cancer treatment through innovative approaches like digital twins.
Tesh’s advice to others battling prostate cancer is to seek specialized care, gather multiple opinions, and maintain physical fitness throughout treatment. He emphasized the importance of having an advocate and not fighting the battle alone.
Through his experiences, Tesh has become an advocate for prostate cancer awareness and emphasized the importance of gratitude, faith, and support during the journey to recovery.” Please rewrite this sentence.
