GE HealthCare and UCSF Partner on Advanced Imaging and Precision Oncology
GE HealthCare Technologies Inc. and the University of California San Francisco and its Department of Radiology and Biomedical Imaging have come together in a new partnership to collaborate on advanced imaging and precision oncology, the company announced.
Why It Matters
GE HealthCare has launched a new Care Innovation Hub that consolidates all collaborative research efforts at UCSF into one cohesive framework. The focus of this new hub is to enhance hospital operations and improve access to care by exploring the use of innovative technologies for diagnosing and treating diseases in clinical settings.
UCSF’s clinical experts in brain health, neurodegenerative disease, and oncology will join forces with GE research and product developers to advance imaging services and precision oncology technologies at university facilities.
Automation is a key goal of this partnership, with a focus on enhancing patient-specific magnetic resonance imaging through advanced quantitative imaging and remote scanning techniques. The collaboration also aims to monitor patient responses to radiopharmaceutical therapies in real-time.
Additionally, research will be conducted to better understand the connections between white matter injury, vascular disease, and Alzheimer’s disease to predict the effectiveness of interventions for brain health.
The Larger Trend
GE and UCSF have previously worked together on developing technologies to improve radiology efficiencies, including the Critical Care Suite powered by GE’s healthcare AI X-ray platform. The healthcare industry is witnessing a transformation in imaging through the integration of artificial intelligence, with an increasing number of FDA-approved AI tools for imaging being introduced in recent years.
On the Record
“We’re excited to collaborate with UCSF on this groundbreaking work, which has the potential to enhance patient outcomes and address serious diseases like Alzheimer’s and prostate cancer on a global scale,” said Erin Angel, GE HealthCare’s global vice president of research and scientific affairs. “By combining our expertise, we are making strides towards solutions that meet real clinical needs.”
