The evolution of virtual care in health systems has been accelerated by the urgent need to respond to the COVID-19 pandemic. Many health systems have successfully implemented virtual care initiatives, streamlining processes and extending care to diverse locations such as rural schools. Strategic collaboration between leaders, prioritizing new virtual care areas, demonstrating value, and ensuring seamless integration with staff, patients, and stakeholders has been key to this success.
Transitioning from decentralized efforts to a unified framework has enabled health systems to achieve significant milestones such as time savings for nursing staff and securing grants for community-based care initiatives. This unified approach ensures sustainable growth and technological integration, delivering effective virtual care experiences to a wide range of communities.
Scott Wilson, senior director at Teladoc Health, will be addressing the topic of unlocking virtual care expansion and success at the upcoming HIMSS25 educational session. Along with co-speakers from Valley Health System, they will discuss the importance of taking an enterprise systems approach to virtual care planning, implementation, and expansion.
By understanding the needs of individual clinical and business groups, identifying key stakeholders, and building clinical and business champions, health systems can maximize the benefits of virtual care. The session will focus on an enterprise approach to virtual care using Teladoc Health’s Solo enterprise virtual care ecosystem, which offers consistent access points for care teams and advanced capabilities for care delivery.
The integration of technology with the EHR ensures that all clinically relevant data is captured for a holistic view of patient care. Patient experiences are enhanced through direct-to-patient visits, on-demand consumer visits, and in-person hybrid video visits, expanding access to care and meeting patients on their own terms.
Attendees at HIMSS25 will leave the session with valuable insights on how to apply a collaborative, enterprise approach to virtual care planning and expansion in their organizations. The session will provide strategies and insights for overcoming obstacles to virtual care adoption and scalability, including governance, staff change management, interoperability challenges, and technology considerations.
The lessons learned from Valley Health’s experiences are transferable to other healthcare IT change management processes, offering versatile lessons for attendees. The session is scheduled for Thursday, March 6 at 9:45 a.m. at HIMSS25 in Las Vegas.
