The Macallan, a renowned distillery known for its sherry-forward single malt Scotch whisky, is releasing a new installment of its Archival Series in the United States for the first time. The Macallan Folio 8 pays homage to the brand’s 1980s print and billboard campaigns, specifically the “Colossus of Nose” advertisement. This playful nod to The Colossus of Rhodes celebrates the whisky’s bold and towering aroma.
Crafted from a selection of first-fill and refill European sherry oak casks, Folio 8 offers a rich and complex flavor profile. Notes of golden sultanas, ripe dates, sweet berry compote, toffee brittle, lemon peel, cinnamon, and a hint of anise combine to create a truly exceptional whisky experience.
According to Steven Bremner, The Macallan’s whisky maker, the selection of barrels for Folio 8 was based on exceptional quality and the rich complexity imparted by the first-fill European Sherry seasoned oak casks. Only the finest casks were used to achieve the outstanding flavors and aromas that reflect the stature of the “Colossus of Nose” campaign.
Folio 8 is a limited release, with only 450 bottles available in the U.S. It is exclusive to The Macallan Society members and private clients. Priced at $400 for a 700-milliliter bottle, this unique whisky is sure to be a coveted addition to any collection.
Launched in 2015, The Archival Series by The Macallan commemorates the brand’s historic print, press, and film advertising campaigns from the 1980s and 1990s. This series showcases the evolution of The Macallan from a remote farmstead on the River Spey to a world-renowned single malt whisky known for its craftsmanship and creativity.
For whisky enthusiasts looking to experience the exceptional quality and unique flavor profile of The Macallan Folio 8, securing a bottle may require a bit of luck. With only a limited number available, this rare release is sure to be a prized possession for those lucky enough to acquire it.
