Asan Medical Center Launches AI-Powered Integrated Service Platform for International Patients
HOW IT WORKS
Asan Medical Center (AMC) has introduced a cutting-edge AI-powered integrated service platform tailored for its international patients. This innovative web-based platform, housed within the AMC International Healthcare Center, offers a wide array of services including registration, medical record sharing, pre-consultation booking, and remote treatment options.
Patients can easily upload descriptions of their symptoms, images or videos of affected areas, medical opinions from their local healthcare providers, as well as CT/MRI test data directly to the platform. These data are seamlessly integrated into AMIS, AMC’s hospital information system, ensuring efficient and systematic data management.
Utilizing AI technology, the platform supports automatic translation in at least eight major world languages such as English, Russian, Arabic, Vietnamese, and Mongolian, catering to a diverse range of international patients. AI is also leveraged to enhance data verification and management processes, including patient identification, image and video conversion, and test data organization, streamlining tasks that were previously manual.
Furthermore, patients can benefit from post-treatment remote health monitoring, counseling, and education through the platform. They can track their progress in near real-time and stay connected with healthcare providers seamlessly.
WHY IT MATTERS
The AMC International Healthcare Center attends to approximately 20,000 international patients annually, with a significant number coming from the United States and the United Arab Emirates. In 2024 alone, the center welcomed around 19,482 international patients, highlighting the importance of providing efficient and accessible healthcare services to a global patient population.
Since 2021, AMC has been offering telemedicine services to patients outside South Korea, delivering 866 remote treatments to individuals with chronic conditions such as brain tumors, pancreatic cancer, and liver cirrhosis from 57 countries over the past five years. However, managing patient data and overcoming language barriers have presented challenges in providing seamless care to international patients.
By introducing this integrated platform, AMC aims to enhance the accessibility and convenience of its services for international patients, providing a seamless healthcare experience.
THE LARGER TREND
Recently, AMC achieved Stage 7 validation in the HIMSS Infrastructure Adoption Model, becoming the first hospital in the Asia-Pacific region to receive this recognition. The center’s virtualization of IT servers, simplification of IT infrastructure, and adoption of robotic process automation have not only improved operational efficiency but also resulted in substantial cost savings.
Additionally, Kasih Ibu Hospital Denpasar in Bali, Indonesia, recently attained Stage 6 validation in the HIMSS Electronic Medical Record Adoption Model, emphasizing the hospital’s commitment to meeting international standards and providing top-notch healthcare services to foreign tourists.
In a similar vein, Bangkok Dusit Medical Services in Thailand partnered with Russian private healthcare provider Medsi Group to offer telemedicine services to their patients, showcasing the growing trend of leveraging technology to enhance healthcare delivery.
