Amplar Health Partners with Australian Government for Virtual Aged Care Nursing Trial
Amplar Health, a healthcare service group under ASX-listed private insurer Medibank, has been selected as a key partner in the Australian government’s virtual aged care nursing trial.
The Department of Health and Aged Care has chosen Amplar Health to provide a telehealth solution for the trial project involving 30 residential aged care homes.
Why It Matters
Running from March 2025 to June 2027, the trial aims to expand virtual nursing care to rural and remote areas, as well as facilities catering to elderly individuals from First Nations and culturally diverse backgrounds. The objective is to assess the integration of telehealth in aged care homes and its ability to offer crucial support to on-site staff and personalized care.
Robert Read, Chief Executive of Amplar Health, mentioned, “Our virtual nursing team will work alongside on-site care teams, providing routine care, consulting with families, and offering specialized support in areas like wound care and dementia.”
The Larger Context
In July, the Health Department unveiled its five-year Aged Care Data and Digital Strategy, which includes plans for virtual nursing and the exploration of AI and virtual reality technologies.
Additionally, a consortium of Primary Health Networks has introduced a free telehealth training package for residential aged care staff, covering topics such as end-of-life care, technology troubleshooting, and device selection.
In recent news, Medibank, the parent company of Amplar Health, acquired telehealth company Medinet. It remains to be seen if Medinet will be integrated into Amplar Health’s operations.
