Former President Joe Biden Undergoing Radiation and Hormone Therapy for Prostate Cancer
WASHINGTON — Former President Joe Biden is currently undergoing radiation and hormone therapy as part of his treatment for an aggressive form of prostate cancer, according to a spokesperson.
Biden’s aide, Kelly Scully, stated, “As part of a treatment plan for prostate cancer, President Biden is currently undergoing radiation therapy and hormone treatment.”
Diagnosis and Treatment
At 82 years old, Biden was diagnosed with prostate cancer after leaving office in January. The cancer had spread to his bone, leading to the discovery after he reported urinary symptoms. Prostate cancers are graded based on aggressiveness using a Gleason score, with Biden’s score being 9, indicating a more aggressive form of the disease.
Following his diagnosis, Biden underwent surgery last month to remove skin cancer lesions from his forehead.
Post-Presidential Health
Biden’s health has been under scrutiny since dropping his bid for reelection six months prior to leaving office. Concerns about his age, health, and mental fitness arose following a debate against Republican Donald Trump. Trump went on to defeat Democrat Kamala Harris, Biden’s former vice president.
Despite these challenges, Biden continues to receive treatment for prostate cancer and remains active in his post-presidential endeavors.
