If you are drinking supposedly decaffeinated coffee and are feeling jittery as a result, you may … More
When you purchase decaffeinated coffee, you expect it to be free of caffeine. However, certain batches of Our Family Traverse City Ground Coffee were mislabeled as decaffeinated when they actually contained caffeine. This information was revealed in a report from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration. As a result, Massimo Zanetti Beverage USA, the parent company, has initiated a voluntary recall of the product starting March 13.

The product being recalled is Our Family’s Traverse City Cherry-Flavored Decaf Light Roast Ground Coffee. The affected batches are 12-ounce bags with best-buy dates of Aug. 8, 2025. The recall affects 692 cases of the product distributed to 15 states: Colorado, Iowa, Illinois, Indiana, Kansas, Kentucky, Mississippi, Minnesota, North Carolina, North Dakota, Nebraska, Ohio, South Dakota, Wisconsin, and Wyoming. If you purchased this coffee in any of these states and are experiencing jitteriness, it is recommended to check the package.

Coffee Recall Is Considered Class II By The FDA
This recall is classified as “Category II” by the FDA, indicating that the use of the product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health effects. Discovering caffeine in a product labeled as decaffeinated can lead to unpleasant outcomes, unlike finding a curly fry in a batch of regular fries.
Caffeine, a stimulant found naturally in coffee beans and other sources, can have various effects on the body. It is recommended to limit daily caffeine intake to below 400 milligrams to avoid potential health issues.
One of the risks associated with caffeine consumption is jitteriness and increased heart rate. Caffeine can also disrupt sleep patterns by reducing melatonin levels and lead to dehydration due to its diuretic effects. It can also affect gastrointestinal function and potentially worsen conditions like GERD.
Given the potential adverse effects of caffeine, it is important to ensure that products labeled as decaffeinated actually contain no caffeine. Checking the packaging of your coffee can help prevent unexpected reactions and ensure a smooth brewing experience.
