Health Cyber Threat Sharing Network Pilot Contract Awarded
A non-profit cyber threat intelligence sharing service has been awarded a contract to launch a Health Cyber Sharing Network in Australia. CI-ISAC Australia will utilize the federal government’s A$6.4 million ($4.2 million) funding to facilitate the exchange of critical cyber security threat information in a secure and confidential environment.
With over 100 members already benefiting from its platform, including notable entities like Google Cloud and the Department of Industry, Science and Resources, CI-ISAC plans to enhance its services by offering health sector education on threat mitigation, cyber and insider threat training, attack surface monitoring, and bolstering cyber incident response plans.
The non-profit organization is actively inviting health and medical organizations along with their suppliers to join the network, providing complimentary 12-month memberships to encourage participation.
NSW Health Appoints New CIO
Richard Taggart, formerly the CIO of Sydney Local Health District, has been appointed as the new Chief Information Officer of NSW Health and the permanent chief executive at eHealth NSW. Taggart brings a wealth of experience, having served as the national director of digital health at Calvary Health Care and led the Digital Health and Innovation team at Sydney LHD for four years.
Upon his appointment, Taggart expressed his commitment to understanding the intricacies of eHealth NSW and setting a strategic direction for the organization in the coming months.
‘Software Malfunction’ Halts Operations at Auckland Hospitals
Recently, public hospitals in Auckland, New Zealand faced a brief IT systems outage due to a software malfunction. The incident occurred on 25 January, causing applications at Auckland City, Waitākere, North Shore, and Middlemore Hospitals to cease operations for nearly four hours in the morning.
Te Whatu Ora Northern Region’s deputy chief executive, Mark Shepherd, clarified that the outage was not linked to any cyber security issues and the systems were swiftly restored to normal functioning within the same day.
