The U.S. Acute Care EHR Market Share 2025 report from KLAS has recently been released, showcasing Epic’s continued dominance in the industry. Despite a slight cooling in the market in 2024, Epic managed to secure its largest net gain in market share to date, with 10 major health systems, including ChristianaCare and UAB Health, choosing the Verona, Wisconsin-based company for their EHR needs.
One of the key factors contributing to Epic’s success is its strong focus on customer partnership. The company’s reputation for listening to customer feedback and implementing requested changes has played a significant role in driving customer satisfaction and ultimately, market share growth. In 2024, Epic won nearly 70% of all hospitals impacted by EHR decisions, solidifying its position as a market leader.
On the other hand, Oracle Health, Epic’s chief competitor, is facing challenges. Despite attracting nine acute care hospitals in 2024, the company experienced a net loss of 74 clients. The acquisition of Cerner in 2022 was hoped to improve relationships with customers, but loyalty and relationship ratings have since dropped. However, recent developments such as the introduction of Clinical AI Agent and Seamless Exchange have generated cautious optimism among customers.
Meditech, another legacy vendor, has been able to retain long-time clients by maintaining stable relationships and enhancing its product offerings. The Massachusetts-based company has the largest percentage of customers still on legacy products, with over 400 hospitals relying on its services. In 2024, 63% of legacy Meditech customers opted to migrate to its Expanse platform, showing a strong preference for the company’s offerings.
Smaller vendors like Altera Digital Health and Medhost faced challenges in 2024, with no net-new contracts or migrations. However, TruBridge saw two hospitals migrate to its go-forward technology, with small hospitals viewing the company as a budget-friendly option.
Overall, the EHR market continues to evolve, with Epic maintaining its stronghold while competitors work to adapt and innovate. The importance of customer partnership and product enhancements remains crucial in driving customer satisfaction and market share growth.
