Pat Geraghty, the long-serving top executive of Florida Blue, one of the nation’s leading health insurance companies, will be stepping down at the end of this year, as announced by the company.
Geraghty, who is 65 years old, has been at the helm of GuideWell and Florida Blue since 2011, overseeing significant growth and expansion of the company into a prominent national healthcare provider.
During his tenure, revenue skyrocketed from $8 billion to over $32 billion annually, positioning the company as a key player in the healthcare industry with a wide-reaching presence serving millions of individuals across multiple states and territories.
Florida Blue, operating under the Blue Cross and Blue Shield brand, now caters to over 38 million members with a workforce of more than 18,000 employees. The company’s offerings extend beyond insurance plans to encompass a range of medical care services through GuideWell Health, including primary and urgent care facilities.
Thomas G. Kuntz, chairman of GuideWell and Florida Blue Boards of Directors, praised Geraghty’s contributions, stating, “He has strengthened the company immeasurably and his dedication to our values and to helping people and communities achieve better health has had a profound impact on our culture, the health insurance industry, and the communities where GuideWell and its companies operate.”
Florida Blue has been a major provider of individual coverage under the Affordable Care Act and has remained steadfast in its commitment to offering such coverage despite challenges faced by other insurers in the market. The company provides ACA products in all 67 counties of Florida.
Reflecting on his legacy, Geraghty expressed gratitude for the opportunity to transform the company into a health solutions enterprise focused on consumer well-being. He emphasized the importance of quality care and innovation in enhancing the health journey of members.
As Geraghty prepares to pass on the leadership role later this year, the GuideWell and Florida Blue board of directors has initiated a national search and succession planning process with the assistance of Russell Reynolds Associates to find a suitable replacement.
