Korea launches groundbreaking bio data project
The South Korean government has officially kicked off the recruitment process for the National Integrated Bio Big Data Construction Project. Spearheaded by the Korea Research Institute of Bioscience and Biotechnology, the project aims to gather clinical and genomic data from one million individuals, including those with rare diseases and severe conditions, over the next eight years. The resulting extensive database will be made available to university and hospital researchers starting in 2026, facilitating research in precision medicine and digital healthcare.
This groundbreaking project is a collaborative effort led by the Ministries of Health and Welfare, Science and ICT, and Trade, Industry and Energy, along with the Korea Disease Control and Prevention Agency.

NEC Thailand expands digital elderly care nationwide
NEC Thailand is actively supporting the digital transformation of Umong, a municipality in Lamphun Province, northern Thailand, by introducing digital elderly care technology. A partnership agreement with the municipality will see the development of a digital healthcare platform that integrates with local medical facilities to enhance the long-term care of elderly individuals and patients with chronic illnesses. The project also includes the incorporation of fall detection technologies and the introduction of remote care technologies, such as IoT devices.
Following a successful smart transformation project with Chiang Mai last year, NEC aims to use the learnings from the Umong project as a model for other municipalities across Thailand.
