Mondelēz International and Biscoff maker Lotus Bakeries have announced an expansion of their partnership into the realm of ice cream. The companies have teamed up with Froneri, a manufacturer of ice cream under license for Mondelēz and other companies, to create Biscoff-branded frozen novelties.
Biscoff ice cream first hit the market in 2019 and is currently available in the U.S., U.K., and E.U. By collaborating with Mondelēz’s partner Froneri, Lotus aims to broaden Biscoff’s global presence. Froneri will handle the production, marketing, and sales of Biscoff ice cream in several European countries starting in 2026, with plans to expand into other regions gradually.
In addition to their foray into ice cream, Mondelēz and Lotus joined forces last year to develop chocolate products that combine the flavors of Biscoff with Mondelēz’s Cadbury, Milka, and other chocolate brands. The collaboration has already resulted in the launch of a Cadbury chocolate bar containing Biscoff pieces, with a Milka product set to follow later this year.
Mondelēz has been proactive in diversifying its cookie and chocolate brands into various categories, including cakes, pastries, and now ice cream. Froneri has held a license to produce ice cream products using several of Mondelēz’s brands since 2011, including Oreo, Milka, and Toblerone.
The move into ice cream allows Mondelēz and Lotus to strengthen their partnership and enhance their product offerings to drive innovation. Dirk Van de Put, Mondelēz’s CEO, expressed excitement about the unique asset that Biscoff brings to their portfolio, emphasizing the potential for creative product development beyond chocolate fillings.
With Biscoff already offering ice cream bars coated in chocolate, there is potential for further innovation by introducing variations with Milka or Cadbury coatings. This strategy would elevate the premium status of the ice cream while expanding exposure for the chocolate brands in the frozen dessert aisle.
Jan Boone, CEO of Lotus Bakeries, highlighted the collaboration’s significance in solidifying Biscoff’s position in the ice cream market and enhancing global brand recognition. The introduction of Biscoff flavors to ice cream consumers worldwide is expected to boost brand awareness and support the global expansion of Biscoff cookies and spreads.
