The National Healthcare Group has recently implemented a cutting-edge human resource system that leverages cloud technology to enhance staff mobility and facilitate data-driven decision-making.
As part of the iConnect@NHG initiative, the healthcare cluster underwent a comprehensive modernization of its HR system to meet the evolving needs of its 20,000 employees who serve 1.5 million individuals in central and north Singapore. Central to this modernization is the adoption of SAP’s HR platform, integrated with cloud-based predictive analytics and business intelligence software. This integration enables real-time visibility into workforce data, empowering leaders to make informed decisions regarding talent management and workforce planning.
With the new HR system, NHG can efficiently manage staff performance, engagement, and well-being by accessing streamlined workforce data complemented by sentiment analysis. Moreover, the implementation of a low-code tool from SAP, a first in the public health sector, allows employees easy access to tasks, policies, and personalized workspaces.
The project was rolled out in two phases, with the first phase introducing modules such as Central, Time Management, Recruitment, Onboarding, Learning and Development, and Performance and Goal Management. The second phase, which commenced over a year ago, introduced advanced features like Succession Management and Compensation Planning.
NHG’s adoption of a mobile-first, data-driven approach underscores the importance of enhancing mobility, improving data accuracy, and supporting continuous learning for employees. Chief HR officer Khoo Swee Lan emphasized the need for a system that is accessible to employees on the go.
Early results from the implementation have been promising, with approximately 90% of staff readily utilizing the new employee mobile application and over 95% accessing the HR platform to complete more than 25,000 workflows. These findings not only enhance employee engagement and reduce administrative tasks but also empower staff to make proactive decisions through data access.
In a larger trend within Singapore’s healthcare sector, Synapxe, the national health tech agency, has launched HEALIX (Health Empowerment thru Advanced Learning & Intelligent eXchange), a common analytics platform for the public healthcare system. This cloud-hosted platform consolidates data infrastructures from individual hospitals and health facilities, providing access to cloud-native tools for developing AI models.
NHG has also extended its data-driven approach to community care partners through the NHG Cares Partners Portal, enabling them to monitor care demand, track registration and attendance, receive real-time updates, and access anonymized population health data for tailored community programs.
This transformative project underscores NHG’s commitment to leveraging technology to enhance employee experiences, drive efficiency, and ultimately improve patient care outcomes.
