Exploring Artificial General Intelligence in Healthcare in Pakistan
Pakistan is delving into the realm of artificial general intelligence (AGI) for applications in diagnostics and nursing training. AGI, a form of AI that mimics human-like intelligence, is being considered for its potential to enhance healthcare services in the country.
Addressing Nursing Education Challenges
The Pakistan Nursing and Midwifery Council (PNMC), responsible for licensing nurses and midwives, has initiated a partnership with California-based AI company MindHYVE.ai. The collaboration aims to tackle the existing challenges in nursing education in Pakistan.
With a national demand for over 3.1 million skilled nurses and midwives, the current nursing workforce in Pakistan stands at 172,000. To bridge this significant gap, PNMC is seeking innovative solutions to expedite the training of nurses. Pilot sites are being identified for the testing of MindHYVE.ai’s autonomous AI education assistant, which customizes training for each learner based on neuro-psychological assessments and adapts to their learning progress.
Implementing AGI in Diagnostics
MindHYVE.ai has also forged a partnership with Islamabad Diagnostic Centre (IDC) to introduce AGI-driven systems across its network of over 140 private centers. These systems include a medical diagnostic reasoner for pre-diagnostic inference and anomaly detection, as well as a narrative generation agent for structured reporting following international standards.
Integrated into PACS and LIS, these models utilize an AI framework for self-organization, priority optimization, and contextual reasoning across patient records. The deployment of AGI systems at IDC will occur in phases, involving refinement, data harmonization, and regulatory compliance licensing with the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP).
Ethical Framework for AGI Implementation
Ensuring ethical use of AGI tools, an AI protocol will govern diagnostic decisions, human validation, encrypted data pathways, and collaborative oversight with government regulators. This includes adherence to standards set by the DRAP and the Pakistan National Accreditation Council.
Driving Digital Transformation in Healthcare
In a significant move, MindHYVE.ai has invested $22 million in Pakistan for a national AI-driven digital transformation program. Founder and CEO Belal Faruki emphasized the importance of co-creating sovereign AI solutions with Pakistan, marking a shift towards digital nation-building.
