Philips to Invest $150 Million in U.S. Manufacturing of AI-Enabled Technologies
Philips recently announced a significant investment of over $150 million to expand manufacturing operations in the United States for AI-enabled technologies. The focus of this investment will be on enhancing manufacturing and research and development capabilities at their facility in Reedsville, Pennsylvania, which currently produces AI-enabled ultrasound systems. This expansion project will include the addition of 24,000 square feet of manufacturing space and 40,000 square feet of warehouse space.
The decision to invest in manufacturing in the U.S. comes as Philips anticipates growth in its ultrasound business and aims to optimize its manufacturing sites. The Reedsville facility specializes in the production of ultrasound transducers, the handheld probes used to create ultrasound images. With the expansion, the facility will also be equipped to customize software and configurations of ultrasound systems for specific medical procedures. One such example is Philips’ ultrasound platform designed to aid doctors in diagnosing structural heart and coronary artery disease.
This expansion is projected to create 120 new manufacturing jobs at the Reedsville site. In addition to this investment, Philips had previously disclosed plans to expand their image-guided therapy facility in Plymouth, Minnesota, with the expectation of adding 150 jobs in that location.
The company’s CEO, Roy Jakobs, expressed optimism about the growth potential of the ultrasound business, citing strong order growth and positive reception of new ultrasound product launches. Philips remains committed to advancing healthcare through innovative technologies and strategic investments in manufacturing capabilities.
The integration of AI-enabled technologies into manufacturing processes underscores Philips’ dedication to driving progress in healthcare and improving patient outcomes. This investment not only strengthens Philips’ position in the healthcare industry but also contributes to job creation and economic growth in the U.S.
With a focus on innovation and expansion, Philips continues to demonstrate its commitment to advancing healthcare through cutting-edge technologies and strategic investments.
