The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has issued a recall for 803 cases, comprising over 12,000 packages of Favorite Day Bakery Frosted Sugar Cookies, due to potential contamination with foreign material, specifically pieces of wood. These cookies were distributed to Target stores across 20 states.
To identify the recalled sugar cookies, look for 10-count packages bearing the UPC 85239-41250 and lot number 25195. The “Best By” dates may vary depending on when the cookies were removed from the freezer by retail locations. The affected cookies were distributed by Target Corporation to states including Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Massachusetts, Maryland, Maine, Michigan, Missouri, North Carolina, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, Tennessee, Virginia, Vermont, and Washington, D.C.
The recall was initiated on July 22, 2025, by Give and Go Prepared Foods Corp., the producer of the cookies, and was classified as a Class II recall by the FDA on Aug. 4, 2025. A Class II recall is defined as a situation where the use of a violative product may cause temporary or medically reversible adverse health consequences, with a remote probability of serious adverse health effects.
It is not clear whether the cookies were ever available for sale to consumers or if they were recalled before reaching the public. If you have the recalled sugar cookies, it is advised not to consume them. Instead, dispose of them or return them to the original place of purchase for a refund.
