Health-tracking ring maker Oura has made a significant move in the industry by announcing its acquisition of data company Sparta Science. This acquisition will allow Oura to leverage Sparta Science’s Trinsic data platform to enhance its B2B offerings and expand its reach into enterprise, healthcare, and government sectors.
Oura Teams, the company’s enterprise data management platform, will benefit from the addition of Sparta Science’s technology. Oura Teams allows administrators to invite members to share data, manage users, visualize and download data, and review group trends and insights. With the integration of Sparta Science’s Trinsic platform, Oura’s enterprise partners will be able to combine data from the Oura ring with third-party sources, providing insights on fitness, safety measures, resource allocation, return-to-work processes, and scheduling.
The acquisition of Sparta Science also brings key members of their team to join Oura, further strengthening the company’s capabilities in the health and performance data space. Dorothy Kilroy, Oura’s chief commercial officer, highlighted the potential of the combined technologies to solve complex health and human performance challenges at scale, citing examples such as optimizing sailors’ schedules for rest and recovery and early detection of illness.
This acquisition is part of a larger trend for Oura, which has seen significant growth and success in recent years. The company initially debuted on Kickstarter in 2015 and has since secured substantial funding and acquired several companies. In 2021, Oura raised $100 million in a Series C round, and in 2022, it reached a valuation of $2.55 billion. The launch of Oura for Business in 2022 provided personalized insights for individuals and customized tools for leaders based on group data.
Recently, Oura announced its acquisition of Finnish company Veri, which offers personalized metabolic health programs. In a previous acquisition, Oura acquired digital identification startup Proxy, further expanding its technology portfolio.
Overall, the acquisition of Sparta Science marks a strategic move for Oura as it continues to grow and innovate in the health-tracking industry. With a focus on data-driven solutions and enterprise offerings, Oura is positioned to make a significant impact on population health and human performance on a large scale.
