Teladoc Health, a leading telehealth company, has made a significant move by acquiring preventive care company Catapult Health for $65 million. This strategic acquisition will enable Teladoc to tap into Catapult Health’s at-home diagnostic testing capabilities and clinical support model, enhancing its integrated care segment strategy.
The acquisition aligns with Teladoc’s key objectives of growing membership and service utilization, leveraging clinical strength to improve healthcare outcomes, expanding internationally, and advancing its mental health services. Catapult Health’s early detection capabilities are expected to lead to better health outcomes and improved care management.
One of Catapult Health’s standout offerings is its VirtualCheckup, an at-home wellness exam where members receive a kit to collect blood samples, check blood pressure, and undergo other health screenings. This is followed by a virtual visit with a licensed nurse practitioner to review test results, discuss health risks, and create a personalized health action plan.
Furthermore, Catapult Health’s clinicians will be able to enroll eligible members directly into Teladoc’s diabetes, hypertension, pre-diabetes, and weight management programs, as well as refer them to virtual mental health therapists and primary care providers. The acquisition will also drive new product enhancements, such as providing lab-confirmed A1c values to support population enrollment and close gaps in care.
Following the completion of the transaction, Catapult Health will operate within Teladoc’s Integrated Care segment. The acquisition, which includes up to $5 million in additional contingent earnout consideration, is expected to bolster Teladoc’s revenue with Catapult Health’s approximately $30 million revenue from the third quarter of 2024.
The demand for home care is on the rise, especially as the population ages. A recent report highlighted significant gaps in healthcare infrastructure, particularly in areas like chronic disease management, mental health services, and post-acute care, signaling a need for age-friendly care solutions.
In another noteworthy development, Teladoc recently announced a partnership with Amazon to expand access to its telehealth chronic condition programs. Eligible Amazon customers can now enroll in Teladoc Health’s diabetes, hypertension, pre-diabetes, and weight management programs through Amazon’s Health Benefits Connector, making it easier for individuals to access essential healthcare services.
Overall, Teladoc Health’s acquisition of Catapult Health and partnership with Amazon underscore the company’s commitment to providing innovative and accessible healthcare solutions to meet the evolving needs of patients. With a focus on integrated care and leveraging advanced technology, Teladoc is well-positioned to drive positive health outcomes and enhance the overall healthcare experience for individuals across the globe.
