Tito’s Handmade Vodka has made a significant move in the spirits industry by acquiring a majority stake in Lalo Tequila, a Texas-based brand. This marks the first acquisition in Tito’s history and signifies a unique partnership between the two companies. The financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, but both brands are excited about the opportunities it presents.
The collaboration between Tito’s and Lalo Tequila is positioned as a different type of spirits partnership that allows each company to focus on their respective products. With this investment, Lalo Tequila aims to expand its distribution network and elevate its brand from a local name to one with global reach.
Tequila has shown resilience in the face of declining alcohol consumption, with premium spirits like tequila gaining popularity. In a Bacardi survey, tequila was ranked as the number one premium offering, and it is being incorporated into more ready-to-drink options. Premium spirits, including tequila, accounted for 35.6% of total spirits sales by volume, according to NeilsenIQ research.
Lalo Tequila, founded in 2020 by Eduardo González, is one of the fastest-growing tequila brands in the U.S. González, a third-generation tequila producer, will continue to oversee the brand’s production under the deal with Tito’s. The name “Lalo” is a tribute to González’s family history in tequila production, with the González family also known for Don Julio tequila.
In a statement, González expressed his pride in the brand’s growth and the partnership with Tito’s, saying, “This moment is a natural continuation of our journey, and we’re excited to introduce LALO to more people across the world while preserving every element that makes us special.” With Tito’s support, Lalo Tequila is poised to make a significant impact in the spirits market and reach a broader audience globally.
